This is an absolutely gorgeous 12 acre botanical garden in Marrakesh, Morocco located north of the Medina. The Islamic Art Museum of Marrakesh is also located in the garden grounds. Jacques Majorelle, a French expatriate, designed and built the garden during the 1920s and 1930s. The garden has been open to the public since 1947. The garden has been owned since 1980 by Yves Saint-Laurent and Pierre Berge. The ashes of Yves Saint-Laurent were scattered in the garden when he died in 2008.
The map below shows the location of Jardin Majorelle north of the Medina in Marrakesh.
The garden has many cacti and palm trees from all over the world. I have been here twice now, and think it is one of the most beautiful quiet places I have ever visited. There is also a restaurant where a pleasant meal outside is available.
Some pictures from the garden and museum are shown below.
The Islamic Art Museum of Marrakesh is also located inside the garden grounds, but photos are not allowed inside.
You should allow at least an hour for a visit Jardin Majorelle, but you will enjoy your visit more if you can allocate two hours for your visit. I could see just spending an afternoon here also. It was that nice.
